The tree releases a nice and pleasant smell especially in the evening.
This variety of jasmine is only found in Tunisia and has a special shape and smell.
Arabian machmoum plays an important role socially
Stratifying the granules of the "Arabian jasmine" tree to form the so-called “machmoum” (bouquet) is one of the traditional crafts in Tunisia.
The flower holds a significant role in weddings and is used in the psychological preparation of both the bride and the groom the day of their wedding.
Tunisian "Arabian jasmine" is a distinctive hallmark as far as the cultivation of Tunisian plants and the manufacture of perfumes at home and abroad are considered.Generations of young men and women inherited the prevailing belief that "the Arabian jasmine machmoum" is a symbol of manhood.

A witness and an actor of Tunisia's rich contemporary history, Tawhida Ben Cheikh is also a symbol of the fighting spirit and the success of Tunisian women before and after independence

Strong economic growth in Tunisia

An International Monetary Fund (IMF) mission headed by Abdelhak Senhadji visited Tunis during the last week to conduct an annual review of the economic policies of the country. Their conclusion of Tunisia's economic situation was surprisingly good, despite the many challenges facing the country as food and petroleum prices are hiking. Tunisia is a large importer of both products, and authorities are subsidising prices to avoid social disruptions.

Saying it with flowers: Tunisian fragrances sought after by the world's greatest perfumers

January 14th 2008

Tunis, December 31, 2007 (TunisiaOnline) --From time immemorial, or more precisely from the time when Carthage ruled the Mediterranean waves, Tunisia has always been one of the world's greatest exporters of flower extracts such as that of the ‘Neroli' or orange flower, the rose, the jasmine, the fell, the lavender, the geranium, the thyme the wild rose, and the rosemary to name but some of the major fragrances the country is famous for.
The Tunisian Neroli in particular is very much sought after by the world's greatest perfumers who sometimes resort to more than 50 fragrances for the creation of one perfume only.
Historians, often refer to the Carthaginians as great experts in the field of producing perfumes from the different fragrances that had no secret for them; and indeed there are tangible vestiges of glass and porcelain perfume recipients that have been found throughout all Carthaginian sites in Tunisia , and around the Mediterranean

2008: International Year of Languages

January 9th 2008

As declared by the United Nations General Assembly, 2008 will be the International Year of Languages (IYL),. The official launch of the year will take place on 21 February 2008, the International Mother Language Day, at UNESCO in Paris, France. It is estimated that a third of all the world's languages will disappear throughout this century. It is therefore timely to look at ways in which languages can be documented, enhanced and revived. One of the key issues is linguistic diversity in cyberspace linking the potential offered by modern communications tools.

A tradition among the descendants of the first Jewish settlers were that their ancestors settled in that part of North Africa long before the destruction of the First Temple in the 6th century before the common era. After the dissolution of the Jewish state, a great number of Jews were sent by Titus to Mauritani a, and many of them settled in Tunis. New York City's public school teaching Arabic

17 September 2007

One of New York City's smallest public schools is probably one of the most controversial – the Khalil Gibran International Academy. The Brooklyn middle school, devoted to Arabic language and culture, opened its doors for the first time this week as the city's new academic year got underway. Paige Kollock reports. "A public school that's going to teach Arabic, which is good for our kids." "While most Muslims are not terrorists, virtually all terrorists are Muslim, says Wiesinfeld. “Yes, the world is different since 9/11. The Saudis have funded terror. Other Arabic groups have funded terror, and we have to look at those schools a little bit differently than we look at the Chinese and the Greek and the French [schools]." Rabbi Ellen Lippman is an Arabic school supporter But the school has many supporters, including Rabbi Ellen Lippman. "Many of us feel that there is room in this city for this new public school and that it will grow and thrive and perhaps build bridges between people, instead of having so much divisiveness."
